Mutual Aid and Interagency Operations
1. PURPOSE
The department may work with LAPD, CHP, Fire/EMS, Metro, and other agencies during major incidents.
2. JURISDICTION
The agency with primary jurisdiction should normally control the scene. LASD may assist when requested or when public safety requires immediate action.
3. LAPD COOPERATION
When working with LAPD:
A. Respect their scene command.
B. Avoid taking over unless assigned.
C. Coordinate pursuits crossing jurisdictions.
D. Share suspect information.
E. Use unified command for major incidents.
4. CHP COOPERATION
CHP may handle highways, major traffic collisions, freeway pursuits, and traffic control. LASD units may assist with containment, arrests, and public safety.
5. UNIFIED COMMAND
Unified command should be used for:
A. Large pursuits.
B. Officer-involved shootings.
C. Barricades.
D. Mass casualty incidents.
E. Large events.
F. Multi-agency operations.
6. CROSS-PATROL AGREEMENTS
Deputies shall not patrol outside assigned areas unless:
A. Dispatched.
B. Requested.
C. In pursuit.
D. Authorized by supervisor.
E. Assisting allied agency.
7. PROFESSIONALISM
Members shall not argue with allied agencies on scene or over radio. Disputes shall be handled by supervisors.
